CC Sabathia States The Obvious When It Comes To Gerrit Cole’s Free Agency
Get ready for 5 months of offseason baseball talk. All of the top free agents this year belong to Scott Boras. That means you will have to wait until you die to find out when Gerrit Cole is going to sign. Scott Boras cares about one thing and one thing only. Getting the top dollar. He might wait until July to sign. That’s the way Boras operates. Often times, a team caves and overpays just as the Phillies did a year ago with Bryce Harper.
Ryan Ruocco and CC Sabathia had a conversation about Gerrit Cole potentially pitching in New York for the Yankees. CC stated the obvious but it needs to be heard:
“If you give that motherfuker enough money, he’s going to want to come here.”
Yeah, no shit. The highest bid is landing Gerrit Cole. It doesn’t matter which team offers it. If you hire Scott Boras, he might send you to Siberia to go play baseball. Whoever offers the most money is getting the player. Will Gerrit Cole pitch for the Yankees? You bet your ass he will. I can promise you he will not take a penny less to play for the Angels which would be much closer to home.
Here’s the bigger question. Will Brian Cashman actually nut up and offer Cole the winning bid? I doubt it. He’s too prudent. I don’t believe he’s going to do it. This is a guy who wanted Patrick Corbin bad while having Corbin state he wants the Yankees to sign him and wouldn’t outbid the Nats. Then he had the nerve to say he never passed on any top line starters in the past. Cashman doesn’t have the balls to pull this off.
