Kyler Murray To Be In On Personnel Decisions

It seems to be a difficult thing in today’s NFL for players to be asked their thoughts and opinions on personnel decisions. We recently saw this whole drama surrounding Aaron Rodgers and the Green Bay Packers, which a lot of it stemmed from the Packers refusing to have Rodgers in on personnel decisions. Tom Brady had to leave New England to finally get his say on a team. But it appears that the Arizona Cardinals and Head Coach Kliff Kingsbury are giving that right to third-year Quarterback Kyler Murray.

Full quote from ProFootballTalk via NBCSports.com:

“Those guys have as good a feel for players, players’ personalities, and talent as any of us because they have been on the field and they have worked with them,” Kingsbury said, via Darren Urban of the team website. “I do think that goes a long way. I like, and [General Manager] Steve [Keim] is the same way, we talk to Kyler about different players he likes, whether it be receivers, linemen, and we like having that dialogue. Give you a different perspective.”

After hearing the high praise and the challenge of being in on personnel deacons, Kyler Murray was quick to show love towards his team but acknowledge that it is no easy task, and he will not take it lightly.

“Coach Kingsbury, he played quarterback, so I think he understands it,” Murray said. “You like to have a say in what goes on. You like to have a say in guys you’d want to play with, because at the end of the day, we’re the ones on the field. We go through it. We see it every day. We know who is good.

Kyler Murray and the Arizona Cardinals finished last season at 8-8, third in the rigorous NFC West, and missed out on a wild card berth. After a solid off-season and development from their young quarterback, the team is hoping to make a charge up the division and secure a playoff spot this season. We will see if Murray’s decisions when it comes to personnel make a difference.
