Canucks Ownership Asked Paul Bissonnette For Advice On JT Miller

The rumor mill won’t stop with JT Miller. He’s been the hot topic around the sport. The streets are saying Miller and Elias Pettersson don’t get along and one or even both could be moved. The Canucks haven’t exactly tried their best to slow these rumors down either. I’m just not sure I had ownership soliciting advice from Paul Bissonnette on what to do on my bingo card.

Bissonnette, AKA Biz Nasty, revealed on the latest episode of Spittin Chiclets that Canucks Owner Francesco Aquilini asked him for advice on what to do with JT Miller.

“Regardless of how bad things are with J.T. Miller right now and the drama surrounding it, you don’t give away this asset for nothing. Given maybe the fact he’s a little bit banged up, I don’t think he’s playing his best hockey right now, maybe a little bit of frustration with the distraction of all the media stuff.”

“Don’t trade him for a first-rounder and [Filip] Chytil. That’s not the move. Because even if you don’t make playoffs this year and he’s not very good, and things fizzle out to the point where maybe he’s not even with the team anymore. I don’t think it’ll get there. How desperate are 10-15 teams this summer going to be at trying to get a first two-line centre?”

I’m not sure I agree with the part on if they wait until the Summer. Not sure the price goes up just because it’s the offseason. Otherwise, it’s hard to disagree. What exactly does trading Miller accomplish? Sure feels like a move they would instantly regret.

The problem with the Canucks is the fact that Thatcher Demko hasn’t been healthy and they don’t have enough depth on D beyond Quinn Hughes. Top end centers like Miller that can produce offensively are so damn hard to find. You never win trades like this. If you trade Miller, you may as well start the entire rebuild and trade Hughes while you’re at it.

If Aquilini asked for my advice, I’d tell him to hire a front office that has real leadership that can strategically quiet the noise with the media. Go trade for two D and go try to win a Cup.
