Another Sunday, another atrocious outing from Bryce Young. The former first overall pick in last year’s draft had a 69% completion percentage yesterday in the 26-3 loss to the Los Angeles Chargers. He threw for a measly 84 yards and an INT. He had one run for 6 yards as well.
For someone as highly touted as Young coming out of college, the NFL community (especially the Panthers) has expected more from the Alabama star. He is no longer a rookie and yet still seems to have no feel for the game at the NFL level. The Carolina Panthers have only scored 13 points through 2 weeks, the least in the NFL. They have only hit on 2 of 22 third-down conversions and have only mustered up 18 first downs. These types of stats make you question what anyone saw in Young in the first place.
But as veteran wide receiver Adam Thielen would like to remind everyone, football is a team game, and Young shouldn’t take all the blame.
“I love Bryce, man, Thielen said while speaking to reporters after the game. “He works his butt off. He’s a great player…This is not a Bryce Young issue. This is an offensive team issue. We are all in this together. I know football is — it’s why I love this game with everything I have — because it is the greatest team game. It’s not about an individual. It’s not basketball where you can have one or two good players and have success. In this league, in this game, you have to have 11 guys on the same page to have individual success. There is no individual on this offense that is to blame. It’s a collective thing…I’m excited about where we can go, but we need to figure out how to have urgency to get that done.”
If Bryce Young continues playing poorly the rest of the year, I think it is time the Panthers start looking for a new Quarterback. You just know the Panthers are kicking themselves for not taking QB C.J. Stroud first overall last year, who was selected by the Houston Texans with the next pick. And the cherry on top is that the Panthers traded up for Young, giving up their first-round pick in this year’s draft. With their first-round pick, which ended up being the first overall, the Chicago Bears selected USC QB Caleb Williams. Although, he also has had a rough go of it these first couple of games. Still, I think the Panthers screwed the pooch and ended up with the worst QB of the three.
