Browns Place Kareem Hunt on Trade Block
The Cleveland Browns have officially placed running back Kareem Hunt on the trade block.
Multiple outlets have reported that the Browns are actively listening to offers on Hunt. The Browns have begun the season 2-5 and find themselves at the bottom of the AFC North. Due to their poor start, they feel it is time to make some changes. Those shifts find the Browns placing Kareem Hunt on the trade block.
This news does not come as a surprise to Browns fans. With their lackluster start in 2022, it was inevitable Cleveland would begin to shop around some players. Rather inevitably, Hunt’s name has been added to the Browns’ trade block. Back in August, the Browns and Hunt had a contract dispute in which Hunt eventually requested to be traded. At the time, the Browns had no intention of parting ways with the 27-year-old back. Now, things have changed.
To this point in the season, Hunt has not had the same level of production that he has had in prior years. In seven games, he has rushed for 263 yards and three touchdowns. Since joining Cleveland, Hunt has been known as the complementary back to Nick Chubb. The Browns once had easily the most intimidating backfield in all of football behind the pair. But in the present, the so-called two-headed monster seems to be a thing of the past.
With Hunt declining in production and the Browns in need of a dire change, this trade news is not surprising. There are a few teams that have been deemed favorites to land Hunt. The most popular team was the New York Jets due to Breece Hall‘s recent injury. However, that is unlikely to be the case anymore following James Robinson being traded to the team.
What Teams are Most Likely to Snag Kareem Hunt?
There are a few realistic possibilities when it comes to who will get Hunt. There was reportedly a list of teams who all contacted the Panthers prior to Christian McCaffrey being traded, including the Eagles, the Bills, the Broncos and the Rams. Most of these teams are actively struggling in the run game. The Bills and the Rams are one solid running back away from being nearly unstoppable on offense. It would be very smart for Buffalo to inquire about Hunt. It seems as though the Bills are truly a running back away from being the best team in the NFL.
No matter who pursues Hunt, they will not have to give up much for him. Realistically, the Browns would trade away Hunt for a draft pick. Hunt would almost definitely not be on the Browns’ roster next season anyways, so they would be more than happy to get a pick for him. Hunt would also benefit whichever team snags him. He was once a back who rushed for over 1,300 yards in a season with the Chiefs.
As the Browns’ struggles continue, so will the inevitability of change to the team. It is difficult for the Browns to make the playoffs at this point, so shopping around for the future is not such a bad idea.
