Bones Hyland Feels Disrespected By Nuggets Trade
It sure doesn’t sound like Bones Hyland is over the fact that the Denver Nuggets dumped him. It wasn’t exactly a secret that Denver was shopping him. However, the trade itself did come across as surprising considering the Nuggets gave Hyland away for two second round picks to the Clippers at the deadline.
The former VCU product isn’t over what happened and feels disrespected by the trade.
“I’m a very emotional type of player,” Hyland told ESPN’s Ohm Youngmisuk. “I’m a very emotional kid, but I love very hard. And I feel like it’s been miscommunication, and I just feel like I’m just being pushed (and) kicked to the curb. Like, damn, bro. Just let me know what’s going on.
“I grew up rough (in Delaware). I can take hard criticism, hard coaching, and stuff like that. I can take that, bro. Just keep it 100 with me. But I got none of that (from the Nuggets). … It just came out of nowhere.”
Hyland, 22, is averaging 11.9 points and shooting 38% from deep in 44 games this season. He’s also under contract for two more years on a rookie contract after this one. The trade is still a head scratcher. Why give up on a young talent like this that can shoot? Especially one that costs nothing while helping a Western Conference rival? Hyland has every right to feel a type of way about it.
The playoffs are going to be fascinating if the Clippers match up with the Nuggets. Will Denver end up regretting this trade? Time will tell.
“I just didn’t like how everything went down over there,” Hyland said, per Youngmisuk. “Honestly. Just felt like I (was) just being treated worse than I was my rookie (season), and I felt like I was playing way better than my rookie (season). I felt like shit just (hit me) from blindside.”
