Austin Ekeler Is Still A Must-Have In Fantasy Leagues In 2021

Injuries suck. Austin Ekeler was my surefire thing last year. Then, he got injured and missed 6 games. Still, the hope is still high for Austin Ekeler because I am once again putting my nuts on the table for Ekeler (or chicken nuggets, I don’t know, roll with it.) Ekeler will be a great fantasy RB this year. In fact, I think he can be in the top 5 Fantasy RB conversation. I called him a sleeper last year, but he’s not a sleeper anymore by any means.

Although Anthony Lynn was a RB coach before he was the Chargers’ head coach and brought out a lot in Austin Ekeler, I think Ekeler’s potential is even higher with him gone. With Joe Lombardi calling the shots, I think Ekeler can really enter almost Alvin Kamara territory if he is utilized like Kamara was in New Orleans when Lombardi was there. While Lombardi will also help Justin Herbert’s fantasy stock, it only increases Ekeler’s stock. You have to think that teams are going to start game-planning better against Herbert better, which might mean more check downs or plays for Ekeler.

Austin Ekeler is still on my list to have for this year. Injuries suck and are not always preventable. Barring that he is not injured this year, I think Ekeler is a top 5 fantasy RB this year. In those 10 games that he did play last year, he averaged 16.5 in PPR leagues. If he maintains that average for the whole year, he becomes either the 6th or 7th best fantasy RB in the NFL. He drops well below that in Non-PPR leagues. If you’re playing in a PPR league, then I should say Austin Ekeler is a must-have. Invest.
