AEW Dynamite Preview (6/22/22): Forbidden Door Go-Home Show, First-Time Dream Match

Tonight’s AEW Dynamite is the last one before the Forbidden Door pay-per-view. The card is stacked, so it should be another great episode. We’re likely to see some matches added to the Forbidden Door card during the show.

We’ll Hear From Christian Cage

Christian Cage is going to speak for the first time since he attacked Jungle Boy on AEW Dynamite. Christian Cage has been mentoring Jungle Boy and Luchasaurus for the past few months. Lately, during their time together, Christian started to push them harder. You can tell he was getting frustrated with the tag-team, and it was only a matter of time before he turned on them.

He attacked Jungle Boy after they lost the tag-team titles to the Young Bucks on last week’s Dynamite. He beat Jungle Boy to a pulp and put the icing on the cake by hitting him with a conchairto. We don’t have any answers as to why Christian did what he did, but we will probably find that out tonight. This is likely a match that is going to get added to the Forbidden Door card.

Toni Storm vs Marina Shafir

Before Toni Storm challenges Thunder Rosa for the AEW Women’s Championship at Forbidden Door, she has to face Marina Shafir. On last week’s Dynamite, Shafir had a championship match against Thunder Rosa, but was unsuccessful. After Shafir lost, she attacked Thunder Rosa. During Shafir’s attack, Toni Storm came out to help Thunder Rosa. That set up this match for tonight’s Dynamite. This is going to serve as a stepping stone match for Storm, but I have no doubt that this is going to be a hard-hitting and excellent match.

Penta Oscuro vs Malakai Black

These two have had a problem with each other for the past couple months. They were able to settle their beef at Double or Nothing, where Death Triangle faced House of Black. The match was one of the best on the card. House of Black took home the victory. They get to fight once again tonight, in a match to qualify for the fatal four-way for the All-Atlantic Championship at Forbidden Door.

Miro, Pac, and Tomohiro Ishii are the other three wrestlers in the match. Whoever wins between Penta and Malakai will be the fourth person. AEW recently announced they had a new championship, the All-Atlantic Championship. It’s their version of the Intercontinental Championship in WWE. The inaugural champion will be crowned at Forbidden Door this Sunday.

Chris Jericho & Lance Archer vs Jon Moxley & Hiroshi Tanahashi

These are four men who have a history with each other. Moxley and Jericho don’t like each other and have feuded in AEW multiple times. Archer and Tanahashi have history in NJPW, dating all the way to 2011. It’s the tale of having common enemies and teaming up to fight them. Moxley is facing Tanahashi at Forbidden Door to crown the interim AEW World Champion. It’s going to be interesting to see how Moxley and Tanahashi team, since they’re going to be facing each other this Sunday. None of these men have teamed with each other before, so it should be a fun one to watch.

Chaos (Orange Cassidy, Rocky Romero, & Trent Beretta) vs The United Empire (Kyle Fletcher, Mark Davis, & Will Osprey)

Ever since Will Osprey arrived in AEW, he has caused havoc. He first targeted FTR and then Chaos came in to help FTR. Orange Cassidy stood up against Osprey, and now they are going to face off at Forbidden Door for the IWGP United States Championship. These are six guys that don’t like each other, so this should be a great match. This is also Orange Cassidy’s first match since this year’s AEW Revolution, as he was recovering from an injury. It’s nice to see Orange Cassidy back in the mix, especially having a very intriguing feud. AEW always puts on good trios matches, so I expect this one to be no different.

We’ll Hear From Bryan Danielson

Bryan Danielson hasn’t been on television since Double or Nothing, when he fought in the Anarchy in the Arena Match. The Jericho Appreciation Society is set to face Eddie Kingston and anyone who wants to fight them at Blood and Guts. Zach Sabre Jr. called out Danielson, claiming he’s the best technical wrestler in the world — not Danielson. We can assume he is going to address both of these situations on Dynamite tonight.
