AEW Dynamite Preview (9/14/22): Tournament of Champions Semifinals

AEW Dynamite is set to be another great show. There are two major matches, plus a tag team grudge match. Coming off of the heels of the All Out media scrum, AEW is looking to move forward. The first Dynamite after All Out was a great show, so I expect the same from this one. They are going to need to put on consistently good shows to progress as a company. With only three matches announced as of writing this, I’m sure AEW is going to announce more as we get closer to showtime. Here’s what to expect heading into AEW Dynamite.

Britt Baker & Serena Deeb vs Athena & Toni Storm (c)

Britt Baker and Serena Deeb are set to take on Athena and Toni Storm. Toni Storm is coming off one of the biggest wins of her career by becoming the interim AEW women’s world champion. Storm defeated Hikaru Shida, Britt Baker, and Jamie Hayter at All Out to become interim women’s world champion. Since then, Hayter and Baker’s friendship has fractured, which is why Hayter isn’t teaming up with Baker for this match. In an act of revenge, Baker attacked Hikaru Shida, who was originally supposed to be Storm’s partner. As a result, Shida cannot compete in the match, so Athena is going to be taking her place. Athena is coming off of a tough loss to TBS champion, Jade Cargill. Storm is looking to put her feud with Baker behind her with a big win on Dynamite.

Jon Moxley vs Sammy Guevara

On last week’s episode of Dynamite, Tony Khan announced that he has vacated the AEW world championship and the trios championships. Furthermore, he announced he was going to hold a tournament to crown the new world champion. Sammy Guevara defeated Darby Allin to get to the semi-final round. Jon Moxley had a first-round bye since he was one of the only three people in this tournament to hold the world championship. Moxley and Guevara have only faced one another once in singles competition in AEW, which came over two and a half years ago. These two are in groups that absolutely despise one another, though. Moxley and Guevara have opposite wrestling techniques so it will be interesting to watch them collide on Dynamite.

Chris Jericho vs Bryan Danielson

Bryan Danielson had a hard-fought victory over former AEW world champion, Hangman Page, to advance in the tournament. Danielson now faces bitter rival, Chris Jericho in the semifinals. Jericho had a first-round bye and now will see his match of the tournament. Jericho and Danielson are no strangers to each other. Jericho just beat Danielson at All Out, which gives him all of the momentum in this match. This is only the second time Jericho and Danielson will be going at it in AEW. The winner of this match will move on to the finals of the Tournament of Champions. Danielson gets a shot at revenge by beating Jericho and moving one step closer to becoming the new AEW world champion.
