AEW Dynamite Preview (7/20/22): First Ever Match Stipulation
AEW Dynamite is the first show of the second week of Fyter Fest, a two-week event including four total shows. Every Fyter Fest show is a pay-per-view card given to everyone for free. AEW Dynamite is set to be a tense show. There are multiple grudge matches, and a first-ever match stipulation is set to take place. So, here’s everything to expect heading into the show.
Kris Statlander, Athena, & Willow Nightingale vs Kiera Hogan, Leila Grey, & Jade Cargill (c)
These six women are set to face each other in what is going to be a grudge match. Statlander and Athena have been chasing TBS Champion, Jade Cargill, for the past few weeks. They both want a shot at her TBS Championship, but Jade hasn’t given it to them yet. They vowed to make Cargill’s life hell until they got what they wanted. Statlander and Athena picked up their first win as a tag team on AEW Rampage last week. Leila Grey got involved after the match by trying to attack Statlander and Athena, but Hogan and Cargill came down to Grey’s rescue and quickly took out Statlander and Athena. Statlander and Athena now have the help of Willow Nightingale and are looking to pick up a big win against the Baddies.
Varsity Blonds vs Christian Cage & Luchasaurus
Christian Cage and Luchasaurus chose the Varsity Blonds to be their next victims. Cage cut another personal promo against Brian Pillman Jr. He then claimed that Griff Garrison looked like Jungle Boy and because of that he is going to face Luchasaurus. Luchasaurus had no problem beating Garrison, but his violence didn’t stop there. After the match, Luchasaurus attacked Garrison and Pillman Jr. by choke slamming Garrison through Pillman Jr. who was on a table. The Varsity Blonds now get their shot at revenge. It won’t be an easy task, but the Varsity Blonds do have forty wins in their AEW career, which is nothing to overlook.
Best Friends (Chuck Taylor & Trent Beretta) vs Blackpool Combat Club (Jon Moxley (c) & Wheeler Yuta (c))
Chuck Taylor and Trent Beretta are facing off against AEW Interim World Champion Jon Moxley and ROH Pure Champion Wheeler Yuta. Taylor and Beretta have more an experience as a tag team, but Moxley and Yuta have been having more success in AEW. Yuta is a former member of the best friends, while Beretta was out. Beretta never really liked Yuta being in the Best Friends and the two always had animosity against one another. Blackpool Combat Club look to prove yet again, that they are the best faction in all of professional wrestling. While the Best Friends are looking to score a huge victory that can change their future in AEW.
Brody King vs Darby Allin
King and Allin have a rich history with each other. Facing off numerous times in the past, they simply don’t like each other. King attacked Allin at a recent autograph signing. The two were also the final member of the Royal Rampage. King eliminated Allin in the Royal Rampage, which gave him a shot at the interim AEW World Championship. King and Malakai Black defeated the Dark Order on Rampage and after the match, they got attacked. As they were walking back up the entranceway, Allin flew off of the top of the tunnel and attacked King. That set up this match taking place for AEW Dynamite.
*Barbed Wire Everywhere Death Match*
Chris Jericho vs Eddie Kingston
AEW is advertising this match as a first-time ever match stipulation. It isn’t clear what the match is going to entail, but it will not be for the faint of heart. The Jericho Appreciation Society will be suspended above the ring in a shark cage.
Kingston and Jericho have been feuding for the past couple of months. These are two men who absolutely do not like each other. Kingston had his chance to make Jericho bleed at the Blood & Guts match. Jericho was the only one in the bout who wasn’t busted open and when Kingston got him in a submission to try to win the match, Claudio Castagnoli made Matt Menard tap out before Jericho did.
Kingston is still out to get revenge on Jericho. He wants to make him bleed and feel the pain that Jericho has made him feel. Kingston won’t be getting the normal Chris Jericho; he will be getting the Painmaker Chris Jericho. The Painmaker is a persona Jericho used mostly when wrestling in NJPW, before joining AEW. It’s the persona he uses to cause pain and brings it out mostly during extreme matches like this.
If AEW does anything well, it’s put on a good hardcore match. There will be blood and there will be violence. This one is not for the faint of heart, so keep that in mind before watching. I’m to assume that everything is going to be wrapped in barbed wire. The ring posts, the apron, the ropes will be barbed wire, and all of the weapons under the ring will be barbed wire. So, this one is going to be pure violence and chaos.
