AEW Dynamite Preview (10/18/22): Will Chris Jericho Destroy ROH?

AEW Dynamite has all of the potential to be an amazing show. The show is taking place on Tuesday, instead of its normal time on Wednesday. Nevertheless, the card is stacked with high-quality matches. There are four title matches plus we’re set to hear from major stars in the company. Recently, AEW weekly shows haven’t been must-sees. It feels as if they lost the spark they once had when the company first started. Dynamite has a chance to start the progress to get where it once was. With a lot on the line, there’s a lot that can happen. So here’s what to expect heading into AEW Dynamite.

We Hear From MJF

We hear from the devil himself, MJF. MJF has been a highlight of AEW since he returned to the company. He came back in epic fashion and won the casino chip, which grants him a match for the AEW world championship whenever he wants. Recently, MJF formed a group called the Firm. It’s a group of wrestlers he pays to work for him, to help him when he needs it. Last week, it was clear he wasn’t on the same page as the Firm when they attacked Wheeler Yuta from behind when MJF was going to shake his hand. It’s likely that MJF is going to address that situation, plus remind Jon Moxley and Hangman Page that he still has the casino chip. Whatever happens, MJF is going to make a statement and it is a must-watch.

Renee Paquette Interviews Wheeler Yuta and Bryan Danielson

It’s going to be interesting to hear what Bryan Danielson and Wheeler Yuta have to say. I’m going to assume that they will address Daniel Garcia’s decision to stick with Chris Jericho and the Jericho Appreciation Society. Garcia hit Danielson in the head with a title during his ROH world championship match against Chris Jericho on AEW Dynamite. Ultimately, that led to Jericho winning. I wouldn’t be surprised if we got a tag-team match out of this interview or Wheeler Yuta challenging Daniel Garcia for the ROH Pure Championship.

AEW Trios Championship Match

Orange Cassidy & Best Friends vs Death Triangle (c)

Death Triangle is putting their trio’s titles on the line once again against Orange Cassidy and Best Friends. Death Triangle beat Cassidy and Best Friends in the finals of the trio’s tournament to crown the inaugural champions. More recently, Death Triangle beat them yet again to retain their trio’s titles. During their feud, PAC and Orange Cassidy have found a disliking towards each other. PAC beat Cassidy to retain his All-Atlantic title but used a small hammer to help him. However, last week on AEW Dynamite, Orange Cassidy got his revenge and beat PAC to become the new All-Atlantic champion. After Cassidy’s title win, Best Friends challenged Death Triangle once again for the trio’s titles. Is the third time the charm for Orange Cassidy and Best Friends or will Death Triangle prove they are here to stay as the trio’s champions?

ROH World Championship Match

Dalton Castle vs Chris Jericho (c)

Since becoming the ROH world champion, Chris Jericho has caused absolute havoc. He has vowed to destroy everything that ROH stands for. In the process, he promised to beat every wrestler to hold the ROH world title to erase their legacy. He has beaten Bandido and Bryan Danielson thus far, and is looking to make Dalton Castle another victim. Castle was the ROH world champion back in 2018 and is now the current ROH six-man tag team champion with the boys. Jericho is trying to destroy the legacy of ROH and as long as he is the world champion, he can do it.

While Dalton Castel will have the boys by his side, Chris Jericho will have the Jericho Appreciation Society. Jericho has proven he can still wrestle with the young guys even at his age. The ROH world title was one of the very few world titles that have eluded Jericho, so he is going to do whatever it takes to continue to be champion.

AEW Interim Women’s Championship Match

Hikaru Shida vs Toni Storm (c)

Toni Storm has faced any and every challenger since becoming the AEW women’s champion. Furthermore, she has had her fair share of issues with half of the women’s locker room. Recently, she teamed up with Hikaru Shida to help beat Britt Baker and Jamie Hayter. Now Storm must defend her title against a former champion, Hikaru Shida. Shida held the AEW women’s title for over a year. She is the current International Ribbon tag team champion and the Regina Di WAVE champion. She has held countless titles across various promotions in her career. So this is going to be Toni Storm’s toughest opponent she has faced in singles competition. Who is going to walk out of AEW Dynamite as the women’s world champion?

AEW World Championship Match

Hangman Page vs Jon Moxley (c)

Since becoming the AEW world champion, Jon Moxley hasn’t taken many days off. Although he hasn’t defended the title yet, he has been competing in matches since. He was just in a hard-hitting tag team match against the Butcher and the Blade on Rampage. Recently, Moxley signed an extension with AEW, so now he can just focus his attention on his wrestling. He faces one of the best wrestlers in AEW in Hangman Page. Page is a former AEW world champion in his own right. Since losing the title to CM Punk, he has been lost.

Page has been trying to gain some momentum, but hasn’t been having the success he once had. He now has an opportunity to reclaim the AEW world title on AEW Dynamite. These are two men that know how to hit, but also how to take a hit. Page and Moxley are probably the two toughest men in AEW, so this match has the potential to be incredible. With MJF lurking in the background, Moxley is going to need to stay focused on Hangman Page if he wants to retain his world title.
