AEW Blood & Guts Preview (6/29/22): Can Cesaro and Eddie Kingston Co-Exist?
AEW Blood & Guts is tonight, June 29th. We are coming off of the historic Forbidden Door pay-per-view, so we are going to get the fallout from that. We will see two groups of men who really hate each other go at it in a dangerous and violent stipulation.
Orange Cassidy vs Ethan Page
After Orange Cassidy’s breakout performance at Forbidden Door, the question is — what’s next? Cassidy returned in the weeks leading up to Forbidden Door to face IWGP United States Champion, Will Osprey, at the pay-per-view. This was, in my opinion, Orange Cassidy’s best match in AEW. He did end up losing, but didn’t go down without a fight. Now that the feud is over with Osprey, along came another challenger. Dan Lambert posted a video on Twitter demanding that Ethan Page faces Orange Cassidy at Blood and Guts. Shortly after, Tony Khan granted his request and now the match is official.
Christian Cage Appears Live
After his shocking attack on Jungle Boy and his brutal promo last week, Christian Cage is set to appear on the show. It is unclear what he is going to be doing, but I would guess it’s another promo. Cage might even show that Luchasaurus is now on his side. I’m also guessing Jungle Boy is going to make his return tonight as well. Cage reminded everyone last week how good he is on the mic, so I’m expecting another explosive promo from him.

Leila Grey vs Jade Cargill (c)
After not having a match at Forbidden Door, Jade is looking for a fight. Stokely Hathaway demanded an open challenge for Blood and Guts, on behalf of Jade Cargill. Shortly after, Tony Khan responded and send out the message to the women’s locker room. Leila Grey would answer the call to try to shock the world and become TBS Champion. Leila Grey has been wrestling in various promotions, and has wrestled in AEW Dark, AEW Dark Elevation, AEW Rampage, and even WWE Smackdown within the past year.
AEW has built Jade up as to be so dominant it’s almost a problem. When you have someone who appears as dominant as Jade, you can’t just have anyone beat her. It seems like they are running out of competitors in the locker room, similar to the Roman Reigns situation. There is no chance Jade is losing, and I also can’t think of anyone who is going to dethrone her.
*Blood & Guts Match*
Jericho Appreciation Society vs Blackpool Combat Club, Eddie Kingston, Santana, Ortiz
The Blood and Guts match is a variation of an NWA Wargame’s match. Two rings are side-by-side and both encased by a steel cage. It’s typically a 5 vs 5 match, where members of each team’s members take turns entering the cage after a certain amount of time. You can only win once every member of both teams has entered the match, via pin fall or submission.
These two groups of men simply don’t like each other. Kingston and Jericho have been feuding for a while, but when Jericho threw a fireball in Kingston’s face, the feud went to the next level. These two groups can’t be in the same building without hunting each other down and fighting until they can’t anymore. Jericho recently beat Ortiz in a Hair vs Hair match, where the loser had to shave their head. Jericho would win, keeping his precious golden hair. Sammy Guevara helped Jericho win that match and realigned himself with him. Chris Jericho, Sammy Guevara, and Minoru Suzuki defeated Eddie Kingston, Wheeler Yuta, and Shota Umino giving the J.A.S the advantage of having their member enter the match first.
The Blackpool Combat Club recently got a new member, Cesaro. Bryan Danielson was set to take on Zack Sabre Jr. at Forbidden Door, but couldn’t compete because of injuries. He announced that he hand-picked a replacement to take his spot at Forbidden Door and Blood and Guts. His replacement is also the newest member of the Blackpool Combat Club. Cesaro would make is AEW debut, now going by his name he used prior to WWE, Claudio Castagnoli.
This one is going to be physical, hard-hitting and every bit violent. These are men who hate the sight of each other. They finally get their hands on each other in a match where they can’t escape.
This is the card for AEW Blood & Guts that the company has announced so far. I’m going to bet that we are going to get some promos on the show as well. I think we will hear from Thunder Rosa and get a new competitor for the AEW Women’s Championship as well. We might also get new challengers for the tag-team championships as well, and hopefully it is FTR. Whatever happens, this show is going to be a wild one.
