The Minnesota Vikings have officially released wide receiver, Adam Thielen. By doing this, the Vikings have freed up $6.4 million in cap space. Throughout his 9-year career in Minnesota, Thielen totaled 6,682 yards and 55 touchdowns per Pro Football Reference. The soon-to-be 33-year-old is coming off a 70-catch, 716-yard, 6-touchdown season and will definitely have a market in free agency.

There are several wide receiver-needy teams that will be looking to sign Thielen in free agency. Teams like the Patriots are a popular potential landing spot as they are devoid of weapons on offense. Jakobi Meyers is a free agent and Belichick loves those Thielen-type of slot receivers. The market Thielen will command will be interesting as he is up there in age (32 years old), therefore, a team in a win-now position will be likely too. The Bills could be a sneaky landing spot too. With Cole Beasley not impressing last season, Josh Allen would love a weapon like Thielen. The reunion alongside Stefon Diggs would be exciting after seeing the success the two had together in Minnesota. At the very least, he’ll be another interesting story to watch this offseason.

Adam Thielen went undrafted coming out of Minnesota State and proceeded to make two Pro Bowls with the team. With the hometown hero gone, the Vikings have a hole at the receiver position. Outside of Justin Jefferson, Kirk Cousins, and co. will be looking to fill the gap this offseason. KJ Osborn is solid, but a red-zone threat like Thielen will be missed. It remains to be seen what the Vikings’ plan is going forward. But look for Minnesota to draft a young pass-catcher this year as the upcoming free-agent class is very weak at the receiver position.
