Did anybody else see De’Vondre Campbell literally quit on the 49ers? Just so wild to imagine a player just refusing to check into the game. Why are you even on the roster if you’re not willing to play? Why not just go retire?
It makes no sense to me but that’s exactly what happened. Peep the video below for more.
“We’re working through the semantics of exactly how to deal with it,” Shanahan said. “But I mean you guys heard from me last night, you guys heard from our players, his actions from the game, it’s not something you can do to your team or your teammates and still get to be a part of our team. We’re working through exactly the semantics of it right now, but we’ll handle the situation appropriately.”
Several teammates also spoke out against Campbell. The best reaction was probably the one Kittle had after the game. Just so authentic and real.
The craziest part is Campbell isn’t the only player who has quit on a team within the same month. Diontae Johnson just did the same exact thing with the Ravens. The Ravens ended up suspending Johnson instead of cutting him. Either way, both players are impending free agents after the season and I can’t imagine Johnson and Campbell get contracts beyond this season. How can you after you literally quit on the team?
