We are at the halfway point of the 2024 NFL Season. Can you believe it’s already November? This is where the season gets really interesting–especially as it pertains to fantasy football. Speaking of fantasy, which players are potential breakout candidates this week? Here’s our list of three for Week 9!
Joe Flacco is back behind center for Indianapolis, and it’s going up against a Vikings secondary that’s been leaky the last three weeks. Pittman’s been quite disappointing this season, recording just two top-25 weeks and three top-30 weeks in standard formats. I don’t know if he’ll supplant Josh Downs in terms of target share, but I expect Fantasy Pros’ WR32 to be a top-25 wideout at least this week. We’re buying low on a big target here.
Hopkins got dealt to Kansas City in mid-October and he had just two catches for 29 yards against the Las Vegas Raiders in his first game with his new team last week. The 32-year-old is far from his old self, and I’m not sure he’ll get that spark back. The track record for receivers over 30-years-old isn’t great. I do expect him, however, to be a top-60 fantasy option his week, which he’s only done once this season. The Buccaneers’ secondary has surrendered the fifth-most receptions and sixth-most receiving yards to opposing wideouts this season. Hopkins now has a full week with Patrick Mahomes under his belt, so I expect both to show greater comradery on Monday night.
The calendar may have turned to November with the weather becoming more brisk, but we are tripling up on wide receivers this week! It helps that Chicago will be indoors in Arizona this week, so we don’t have to worry about any nasty weather. Most importantly, any chance I get to fade the Cardinals’ secondary, I will. He was arguably Chicago’s top receiver last week, even though he tallied just three catches for 41 yards. He’s only had at least six points once and five points twice, so I’m looking for him to have a breakout week in a bounce-back opportunity for rookie Caleb Williams.
