2022 Fantasy Football Waiver Wire: Best Pickups For Week 3

With two weeks of the NFL season in the books, the fantasy football waiver wire is alive and well. There were plenty of great players available after Week 1, so make sure to double-check last week’s waiver wire pickups as those players are still worth rostering. If you missed out on that bunch, there is a new crop of talent available to add this week. Here are the best fantasy football waiver wire pickups for Week 3 of the 2022 fantasy football season.

These players are available in more than half of ESPN leagues. That means no Garrett Wilson or Jahan Dotson. All rostered percentages are accurate as of 3:30 p.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 20.

Jimmy Garoppolo — 1.1%

San Franciso 49ers quarterback Trey Lance will be out for the 2022 season with a broken ankle. That makes Jimmy Garoppolo the 49ers’ starting quarterback. Usually, you would not expect fantasy production out of a backup quarterback, but Garoppolo is a starting-caliber signal caller. As San Francisco’s starter in 2021, Garoppolo finished the season 17th in fantasy points among quarterbacks while only featuring in 15 games. If you play in a league that starts more than one quarterback, Garoppolo is a great pickup.

Gerald Everrett — 30.7%

Los Angeles Chargers tight end Gerald Everett is one of the best tight ends on the waiver wire. Everett is the clear number one tight end in a productive chargers offense. Everett was productive thus far this season. So far this season Everett has nine receptions on 14 targets for 125 yards and a touchdown. This has come while playing around two-thirds of the offensive snaps week. This may not be the best production in the world, but the option for tight ends on the waiver wire is sparse. Everett is a solid and consistent option amongst other more volatile tight ends that are on waivers.

Sterling Shepard — 10.2%

Usually, I would advise staying away from players on the New York Giants. However, two weeks into the 2022 season the Giants are 2-0. First-year head coach Brian Daboll seems to be a good coach and we may be able to find fantasy value in New York. On waivers, wide receiver Sterling Shepard is a good pickup. Shepard’s 2021 season ended early as he tore his Achilles, but he is off to a solid start in 2022. In week one, Shepard had four targets for two catches for 71 yards and a touchdown. In week two, Shepard was unable to find the end zone, but his usage skyrocketed. He was targeted 10 times and caught six passes, but only tallied 34 yards. His offensive snap share also jumped 16% from Week 1 to Week 2. The Giants’ wide receiver room is a mess, so if Shepard can continue to get this usage he will be the clear No. 1 wide receiver. The possibility of finding a team’s best wide receiver on the waiver wire is always appealing.

Michael Gallup — 44.2%

Dallas Cowboys wide receiver Michael Gallup has yet to play in 2022. Do not let that prevent you from adding him to your roster. Gallup tore his ACL in week 17 in 2021 and has missed the start of the 2022 season. Now, Gallup could be ready to make his 2022 debut in Week 3. During the offseason, Dallas resigned Gallup to a five-year deal and traded Amari Cooper to the Cleveland Browns. If that does not show that Dallas expects Gallup to play a large role in their offense I do not know what will. Jump on Gallup now because he may be on the waiver wire in the upcoming weeks.

Mark Ingram — 27.2%

New Orleans Saints running back Mark Ingram may be able to provide short-term help to your fantasy roster. To be clear, Ingram’s fantasy value is dependent on Alvin Kamara’s health. If Kamara is healthy and playing, Ingram will not see much work. On the flip side, if Kamara is injured Ingram will be the Saints’ lead back. With Kamara sidelined in Week 2, Ingram saw ten carries for 60 yards. If he can repeat that level of production and add some touchdowns Ingram will be a great player to add. Once again, Ingram will have little to no value when Kamara plays. Kamara owners should work especially hard to have Ingram as a bench option.
