2022 Fantasy Football Breakout Candidates: Week 4
We will see the debut of the new Cincinnati Bengals all white uniforms Thursday night against the undefeated Miami Dolphins to kickoff Week 4. You also might be angry about how your first three fantasy football weeks, or you feel wonderful! Or neither! But while you ponder your thoughts, let’s discuss potential fantasy breakout candidates for this week. How’d we do in Week 3?
- Adam Thielen, WR, Vikings: 6 rec., 61 yards, 1 TD
- Cam Akers, RB, Rams: 12 car., 61 yards, 1 TD
- Chase Claypool, WR, Steelers: 3 rec., 35 yards; 1 car., 11 yards
- T.J. Hockenson, TE, Lions: 3 rec., 18 yards, 1 TD
- Justin Fields, QB, Bears: 8-17, 106 yards, 2 INT
Not the worst week ever! Three of the five scored touchdowns, but it was capped off by a stinker from Fields against the lowly Texans. My apologies for the false optimism, Bears fans and Fields fantasy owners (if there’s still any at this point.)
Now let’s jump into Week 4!
Michael Carter, RB, New York Jets
While Carter and Breece Hall have nearly split touches through three games, Carter has been on the field 56.5 percent of the snaps compared to Hall’s 41.8 percent. With Zach Wilson likely returning this weekend, I anticipate the Jets run the ball more against a Pittsburgh run defense that has been unimpressive thus far. While the Jets’ rushing attack hasn’t been super pretty regardless, this is a good breakout spot for Carter, who’s averaged 4.4 yards per carry so far in 2022.
Marquez Callaway, WR, New Orleans Saints
The Saints have injuries to Jarvis Landry (ankle), Michael Thomas (foot), Tre’Quan Smith (concussion) and Deonte Harty (foot). As of this publishing, Thomas didn’t practice while the remaining three did practice Thursday. But this is still a breakout spot for Callaway, who’s caught just one pass so far, against a questionable Vikings secondary. Though it also somewhat hinders on whether Jameis Winston plays or not. Andy Dalton isn’t the worst, either, but it’s still quite a dart throw, I know.
Gabe Davis, WR, Buffalo Bills**
While he hasn’t been necessarily a volume receiver, Josh Allen finds Davis in the end zone. Against an underwhelming Ravens secondary, this is a perfect spot for Davis — who’s found just end zone once in two games this season — to find it at least one more time.
Russell Wilson, QB, Denver Broncos
I don’t have to belabor how anemic the Broncos’ offense has been through three games. Nathaniel Hackett vs. Josh McDaniels — anything can happen. What happens in Vegas, might actually stay in Vegas if Denver can’t get off the schneid. I’m banking on Wilson to break out for no good reason.
George Pickens, WR, Pittsburgh Steelers
There’s only reason why he is on this list:
Even though Mitch Trubisky is a suboptimal quarterback, feed George Pickens. #LetPickensCook.
