2022 College Football Games of the Week: Week 5

Last week, we were treated to a fantastic slate of games. I had mentioned in that article, which can be found here, that I had almost a dozen games that were worth watching. The same can be said about this week, too. As the season progresses, the games get better and the anticipation grows. We are in for a STACKED Saturday of College football, so let’s look at the best College Football games of the week.

Honorable Mention: No. 9 Oklahoma State at No. 16 Baylor, No. 17 Texas A&M at Mississippi State, Iowa State at Kansas, LSU at Auburn

5) No. 22 Wake Forest at No. 23 Florida State (3:30 p.m. ET, ABC)

Our list of the best College Football games of the week begins with a doozy.

The Florida State Seminoles are off to their best start in over a decade, which begs the question: Is Florida State back? Well, if they want to prove to the country they are, they have a great opportunity to do so against a very good Wake Forest team. Wake Forest does not traditionally play well at Doak Campbell Stadium, but this is their best team in decades so this year might be different. We have a great QB matchup between Sam Hartman and Jordan Travis which should provide fireworks. Which offense will score more, the great rushing attack of Florida State, or the air raid offense of Wake Forest?

4) No. 7 Kentucky at No. 14 Ole Miss (12:00 p.m. ET, ESPN)

Two SEC teams going head-to-head to see who improves to 5-0 on the year? Don’t mind if I do. Will Levis has been a man possessed this year to prove to everyone he really does deserve the hype he garnered this pre-season, and a win on the road at Ole Miss will go a long way in proving the doubters wrong. Chris Rodriguez will also be back after serving a two-game suspension. But this is no cakewalk for the Wildcats. The Ole Miss defense is very good this year and will look to make Levis uncomfortable and force him out of the pocket.

3) No. 4 Michigan at Iowa (12:00 p.m. ET, FOX)

Boy, did Michigan look rough last week or what? Michigan barely snuck out a win against a bad Maryland team 34-27. This team has holes on their squad, and a very game Iowa team will look to chip away at them. This has upset potential written all over it, as the Iowa Hawkeyes are 5-1 in their last 6 games against AP top-ten teams. To win this game, they will have to force Michigan to short-yardage plays and limit the explosive runs. This Iowa offense is the 12th worst offense in the country, so if they have ANY chance of pulling off the upset, this will have to be a 17-14 or 10-7 kind of game.

2) No. 10 NC State at No. 5 Clemson (7:30 p.m. ET, ABC)

The slate doesn’t get any easier for the Clemson Tigers. Last week, they were nearly upset by Wake Forest in a classic. The Tigers had their hands full with Sam Hartman, and they will face another quality quarterback this week in Devin Leary and the Wolfpack. Leary has a great deep ball and receivers who will run under and bring them down. Clemson did do a lot right last week, like finally getting QB DJ Uiagalelei into a rhythm and letting him sling it. If Uiagalelei can maintain the momentum this week, I expect a high-scoring affair. Good game to bet the over on.

Our Best Game of the Week: No. 2 Alabama at No. 20 Arkansas (3:30 p.m. CBS)

The top of our list for the college football best games of the week is sure to provide clarity in the SEC. These two teams played last year, with Alabama escaping with a 7-point win. Arkansas, on the heels of a heartbreaking loss to Texas A&M last week, is going to be as motivated as ever to get back on track. What better way to right the course than by upsetting the number two ranked team in the country? Both offenses have great QB play, elite running back, and stellar offensive lines. This game might come down to who has the ball last.
