2020: A lighthearted look back at The Good, Bad, and Ugly

There’s no denying it’s been a hell of a year. I think most people will be happy to see the back of 2020, but before we leave it in the rearview mirror it’s time for a lighthearted look back. The Good, Bad, and Ugly of 2020.

THE GOOD:

Baltimore Ravens v Cleveland Browns: If all NFL games were like December’s Monday Night Football clash between Baltimore Ravens and Cleveland Browns the sport might have more fans. Instead, it languishes pitifully behind the ‘beautiful game’ from which it stole its name. In fact, according to some polls, it also falls behind Cricket and Field Hockey. How embarrassing!

That game had it all though. Back and forth opening, a lead was blown, and a last-second win. It also had the memorable Lamar Jackson “cramps” and a safety by the Browns with the last play of the game to ruin bets all over the country. More of that please NFL!

Luton Survive: It took until the final game of a prolonged season and the return of the savior Nathan Jones but Luton Town consolidated their EFL Championship status. When the season was paused that feat looked well beyond possible. However, a strong restart and a magical 3-2 win over Blackburn Rovers on the last day meant the Town stayed up for another season.

THE BAD:

The Dallas Stars beat the Colorado Avalanche: It wasn’t even that it was the Stars, but the way it went down that puts this on the bad list. Losing your starting goaltender and backup, going 3-1 down in the series, fighting back to 3-3, only to lose in overtime in game seven. Unbelievable.

The Avs will be back and are odds on favorites for the 2021 Stanley Cup. With players like center Nathan MacKinnon and defenseman Cale Makar, it’s not hard to see why. The bad taste left in their mouths from the Dallas series should be enough driving force to go all the way.

Liverpool won the Premier League: I don’t think there are two things I hate more in the world than Taylor Swift and Liverpool. We’ll get to Ms Swift later but going into the bad column is Liverpool’s historic Premier League title win. The club’s first in 30 years.

I dislike Klopp but rate him as a coach. I also dislike one or two players but overall I can admire them as some of the best in the world. Their fans however are a completely different story.

Michael J Dalo of the Mostly Soccer podcast told us during their interview that a lot of  Liverpool fans “are great friendly people and then there are a lot of them that are idiots.” I seem to only know the idiots and complainers it seems. To sum them up they are the type of people who would shoot you in the back and blame you for not turning around.

THE UGLY:

Taylor Swift: Taylor Swift released two new albums in 2020. As if things weren’t bad enough with the Pandemic now we have to deal with this. Read the room, Taylor.

Anyone that reads my pieces knows I’m not a Swift fan but this seemed heinous even for her. I get it that without touring money is probably tight so another album makes sense for the so-called pop star. But is she going to pay for the irreversible damage to my ears when I have to listen to it nonstop on the work Muzak? I didn’t think so.

COVID-19: Do I need to say any more!?! The disease shut down civilization as we know it in 2020 and ended sports all over the world. Sure, we at Vendetta Sports Media kept racking up the posts and the views but it put a lot of good people out of jobs and into hardship.

I get not everyone will agree with my choices but as Chad would say… IT DOESN’T MATTER WHAT YOU THINK JABRONI!! Happy Holidays everyone and let’s hope Taylor doesn’t get any ideas about a third album before the month is over. Jesus Wept.
