Why Did John Beilein Leave Michigan For the Cavs?

John Beilein

Hey, John Beilein. Question for you. What the hell were you thinking when you left Michigan to join the awful Cavaliers? You, sir, dug your own grave. (David Zalubowski/Associated Press)

Rumor has it that John Beilein will not finish the season as the head coach of the Cavaliers. Beilein has been described as miserable and unhappy with the way things are going. The Cavs players and front office isn’t happy either. The former Michigan coach has had a tough time adjusting to the NBA. My question is why the hell did he leave Michigan for the Cavs in the first place?

John Beilein is 67 years old. He had a stable job at the University of Michigan. It was a team that was a year removed from losing in the championship game and was always a consistent threat in the NCAA tournament. He left that job for a small market team with no talent and was trapped with bad contracts. In what world does that make sense?

Beilein only has himself to blame. If you’re going to leave Michigan for the NBA, why do it for the Cavs? You would be entering a situation with basically no talent and a total rebuild. The most exciting part of the job was taking Collin Sexton and Darius Garland. Two ball dominant guards that probably can’t play together.

The down side was taking miserable Kevin Love and trying to motivate him. A contract that nobody wants. Tristan Thompson can be a little toxic too. The Cavs are 14-40 and nobody is surprised they are that bad. They don’t have any talent. Brad Stevens left the college game to join the Celtics. Beilein joined the Cavs. What the hell was he thinking? This is a move that never made sense from the jump. Not even close to ever making sense. John Beilein dug his own grave going to the Cavs in the first place.
