Week 1: 2019 NFL Season Preview

Week 1

Packers @ Bears

Packers @ Bears

It’s officially week 1 of the NFL in the 2019 regular season. We start out with Thursday Night Football as the Chicago Bears host the Green Bay Packers. me, the Chicago Bears are at home, have an all-around better team, and are poised to compete for the division title this year. I think they take this game. The only issue is Aaron Rodgers, that guy can make any team decent by himself. If the Bears limit Rodgers, it should be 1-0 for the Bears.

Final Prediction: Chicago Bears 28, Green Bay 17.

Redskins @ Eagles

The Eagles are a title contender this year, IF Carson Wentz can stay healthy. After an injury prone start to his career, Wentz’s health is key to the Eagles success. With that being said, I think they beat the Redskins pretty easily despite the Redskins underrated defense. The Redskins offense is prolific in the slightest with Case Keenum and Derrius Guice leading the charge. This week 1 matchup is a no brainer.

Final Prediction: Philadelphia Eagles 31, Washington Redskins 14

Bills @ Jets

The Jets should have a good handle on this one, keep the Bills defense on the field and it’ll fall apart for them. The Jets have a new and improved offense with a talented QB in Sam Darnold with the notable acquisition of Le’Veon Bell. The Jets secondary is very suspect, but I don’t have very much faith in the Bills offense or Josh Allen for that matter. I have high hopes on the Jets this year, let’s see how they do.

Final Prediction: New York Jets 24, Buffalo Bills 10.

Falcons @ Vikings

Oh man, what a week 1 matchup we have here. Matt Ryan and the Julio Jones connection is good as ever. The Falcons defense is decent as well. On the other side, I think the Kirk Cousins plays better this year with the offense a year under his belt. The Vikings are getting Dalvin Cook back, a huge asset. The WR duo in Adam Thielen and Stefon Diggs will continue to play at a high level. I expect this game to be a shootout, but I think the Vikings are a better all-around team.

Final Prediction: Minnesota Vikings 31, Atlanta Falcons 28

Ravens @ Dolphins

I feel bad for the Dolphins, they are extremely bad this year. Kenyan Drake being the only bright spot on the Miami offense. The Ravens added Mark Ingram this year. Lamar Jackson is a much lesser Mike Vick, and their defense is quite solid. The Ravens defense should be able to handle that disaster of an offense that Miami has. I’m not expecting a high scoring game, but we will see how Lamar Jackson does to start the season in week 1.

Finals Prediction: Baltimore Ravens 21, Miami Dolphins 13

Chiefs @ Jaguars

Coming off a AFC Conference Title loss, the Chiefs hope to get back to that level a play with the absolute stunning talent in Patrick Mahomes. The Chiefs also just signed LeSean McCoy this week to add to their high-powered offense. While these past few seasons McCoy seems to be past his prime, he hopes to have a resurgence in his career with his old coach Andy Reid. However, the Chiefs defense got even worse this offseason and will ultimately be their downfall sooner or later. For the Jaguars, they signed Big Dick Nick in the offseason, so we will see if Nick Foles is really that good or was the Eagles offense carrying him. He does have Leonard Fournette in the backfield, as long as he produces, Nick Foles may be able to make some noise.

Final Prediction: Kansas City Chiefs 34, Jacksonville Jaguars 21

Titans @ Browns

What a time to be a Browns fan….did I really say that? I am of big fan of the Browns this year. Their offense should be stellar. They have Baker Mayfield, Nick Chubb, Odell Beckham Jr, Jarvis Landry, and David Njoku. The problem isn’t the talent, it’s making sure everyone gets enough touches in this talented offense. Their defense is no joke either, they’re young, fierce, and hungry. This is a make or break year for Marcus Mariota, although he hasn’t been the worse QB, the Titans are expecting results. The Titans defense doesn’t get enough credit for how talented they are, in fact the whole team has talent. If the Titans want to make an impression, the time is now.

Final Prediction: Cleveland Browns 27, Tennessee Titans 17

Rams @ Panthers

The Los Angeles Rams are coming off a Super Bowl loss to the Patriots last year, but they don’t expect to lie down and die. They’ll be coming back hungry than ever to try to get a championship. In fact, the Rams just re-signed Jared Goff another 4 years on his contract at more than 32 million a year. They are determined to get back to the Super Bowl and win with Sean McVay leading the way. The Panthers are an unusual team. They have the talent to win, but for some reason, they are just so streaky. If Cam Newton can stay healthy and recover well from his injury, they always have a chance to win, especially with that stud of a RB in Christian McCaffrey. The Rams handle this game though and pick up where they left off.

Final Prediction: Los Angeles Rams 35, Carolina Panthers 24

Bengals @ Seahawks

The Seahawks quietly are a dark horse to make a deep run in the playoffs this year. Russell Wilson is still a great QB, Chris Carson looks like he can handle the load at RB, Tyler Lockett is a solid WR and DK Metcalf could be a great touchdown threat. Seahawks are also getting away with robbery after their trade for Jadeveon Clowney, essentially giving the Texans a bag of chips and some bubblegum for him. The Bengals don’t have many bright spots, Andy Dalton is bad, AJ Green is always injured, and I don’t even know who’s on their defense. Don’t expect much from this team other than Joe Mixon hurting his back from trying to carry this team.

Finals Prediction: Seattle Seahawks 24, Cincinnati Bengals 13

Colts @ Chargers

The Chargers are bonafide Super Bowl contenders this year. Philip Rivers can still sling the ball, perhaps better than he has in his career. You’d think that with Melvin Gordon out, that the offense is not good. But fortunately for the Chargers, Austin Ekeler is a STUD. This is not to mention the receiving options for LA. They have Keenan Allen and Mike Williams at WR, and Hunter Henry at TE. On defense, they have Melvin Ingram and Joey Bosa highlight a stellar defense for them. While the injury of Derwin James is a setback, the defense can definitely hold its own. The Colts WOULD be if Andrew Luck was playing. However, Indy still has a solid team around them and will make some noise in their division. This is going to rely on Jacoby Brissett heavily to pull the weight to win games. With Marlon Mack, T.Y. Hilton, Eric Ebron, and Jack Doyle as his offense, there is definitely a chance to keep this team competitive.

Final Prediction: Los Angeles Chargers 27, Indianapolis Colts 20

49ers @ Buccaneers

Jimmy Garoppolo is back for week 1 ladies and gentlemen. After getting injured early in the season last year, people have seemed to forgot that Jimmy G is an OG. The 49ers offense is underrated with Matt Brieda, Marquise Goodwin, Dante Pettis, and George Kittle leading the way. The 49ers defense is also solid and I expect them to compete for the division this year. For me, it’s make or break time for Jameis Winston, if he is going to make the jump to be a consistent, good QB, the time is now. The Buccaneers have Peyton Barber, Mike Evans, Chris Goodwin, and OJ Howard to start making noise. I wouldn’t rely on Tampa Bay’s defense though.

Final Prediction: San Francisco 49ers 20, Tampa Bay Buccaneers 14.

Giants @ Cowboys

Cowboy fans rejoice, this actually might be a great year for “America’s team.” Also, celebrate that Zeke Elliott just signed his new deal and will be playing in week 1. The Cowboys finished out last year on a great run, and they hope to pick up where they left off to battle with the Eagles for the division. The Giants have a bright spot, just one, but he’s brighter than the sun. Saquon Barkley. The Giants will be building around him for years to come, for this game however, New York just needs to lay down and take their L with no vaseline.

Finals Predictions: Dallas Cowboys 24, New York Giants 10

Lions @ Cardinals

ZzZzZzZ….This game is a snooze fest. Unless you’re a fan of either of these teams, no one is watching this game. Both teams are bad altogether and will not be competing for their divisions. I will be checking out to see how Kyler Murray plays, but the Cardinals are worse than the Lions this year. David Johnson will need a back brace for trying to carry this team the whole year.

Final Prediction: Detroit Lions 17, Arizona Cardinals 10

Steelers @ Patriots

This is the first Sunday Night Football game of the year. The Patriots host the Steelers in what should be a great way to start off Sunday Night Football. Although in my honest opinion, both of these teams are on the downfall of their success. Well, the Steelers are anyway, as much as I hate the guy, Tom Brady can still win even if he is almost 100 years old.

Tom Brady and Bill Belichick is still the best QB and coaching duo we’ve ever seen and against any average defense or less, they can make this game an easy win to start the season. With the duo of James White and Sony Michel, Julian Edelman, and Martellus Bennett at TE, the Patriots shouldn’t have any problem on offense. While the Steelers took a huge blow talent wise, by trading AB, they still have a formidable offense in Ben Roethlisberger, James Connor, Juju, and Vance McDonald at TE. The problem for the Steelers is their defense.

Final Prediction New England Patriots 24, Pittsburgh Steelers 20

Texans @ Saints

For the first Monday Night Football game of the 2019 season, the Houston Texans are being hosted by the New Orleans Saints in week 1. This game will be a doozy. The Texans went all in last week with a trade with the Miami Dolphins to get Laremy Tunsil and Kenny Stills to help their offense and more importantly Deshaun Watson. With Deshaun Watson, Nuk, and now Kenny Stills, this offense can make some noise in the passing game. Drew Brees is still an elite QB, Alvin Kamara will be even better now that he doesn’t have to share snaps with Mark Ingram. Lastly, Michael Thomas is a beast and practically un-guardable. Even if you think that’s enough, they still have Jared Cook at TE that is another option for them. As long as they do what they do best, which is score, they shouldn’t lose this game.

As good as the Houston Texans are, the Saints are just much better. This is a Super Bowl team. This is the Saints year and unfortunately for the Texans, they are the first victim.

Final Prediction: Saints 31, Texans 24

Broncos @ Raiders

In the last game of week 1, the Oakland Raiders host the Denver Broncos in which could be the last time the Oakland starts a season for a Monday Night game forever. These teams are about equal in talent. I think Oakland’s offense can be better than Denver offense, with the squad of Derek Carr, Antonio Brown, and Tyrell Williams. The problem will be how well they will gel with very little playing time in preseason. The Broncos have a STUD in Philip Lindsay and can run all over the Raiders notoriously bad run defense. This game is a toss-up but the fan in me is taking the Raider barely.

Final Prediction: Oakland Raiders 21, Denver Broncos 17
