Tristan Wirfs, the tackle prospect from Iowa is next up on my list players to write about before the 2020 NFL Draft. It seems like finding quality offensive lineman at the NFL level is becoming harder and harder. The 2020 NFL Draft could be an exception. Wirfs is one of 4 high end tackle prospects in the class this year. Here is everything you need to know about him.

Tristan Wirfs has played left and right tackle at Iowa. The Hawkeyes tackle prospect measures in at 6’5″ and 320 pounds, 34-inch arms, and blew up the combine. Wirfs ran a 4.85 – 40 time which is freaky for an offensive lineman. Add in 36.5-inch vert, 121 broad, 24 bench reps, and a 7.65 3 cone. In terms of tools and measurables to play the position, Wirfs is the complete package.

Wirfs also passes the common sense test. Big 10 offensive lineman of the year? Check. State champion wrestler? Check. Does school have prior NFL success stories at the position? How Marshall Yanda, Brandon Scherff, and Brian Bulaga sound? Check. Iowa is always a good place to find offensive line prospects. Wirfs is also the first Iowa product to start on the offensive line as a true Freshman. It’s an even bigger compliment given Kirk Ferentz coaching philosophies.

Tristan Wirfs is powerful and agile. It’s a rare combo. All of the movement skills Wirfs showed at the combine were excellent. I remember him excelling in pass sets and dominating the mirror drill. Wirfs has a shredded lower half and held his stance forever. All of the traits are there.

So what should we expect with Tristan Wirfs at the NFL level? It’s hard not to feel safe that you’re getting a quality starting tackle at bare minimum. The NFL Draft is all about minimizing risk. With Wirfs, there are now glaring holes to his game. This is the complete package. The team that selects Tristan Wirfs in the 2020 NFL Draft should feel confident that made a great selection.
