Is 2020 the year of Blake Jarwin? Stephen Jones, son of Jerry, believes so. Jason Witten’s name basically topped the depth chart for 17 years at the tight end position for the Dallas Cowboys. Blake Jarwin is the first guy with a real opportunity to fill his shoes.

Stephen Jones had nothing but praise for Jarwin:

I think Blake Jarwin has had an amazing camp,” Jones said during his regular radio appearance with 105.3 The Fan. “He’s right there top handful of all-time favorite Cowboys is Jason Witten. But it was hard to be a tight end in this organization when 82 was around. Certainly he’s getting to spread his wings now, whether it’s Coach (Mike) McCarthy, the offensive staff, his teammates, he keeps showing up out there. I don’t know how much you guys have been able to get out to see any of the practices. But he’s just — he’s really coming in to his own, and nothing would surprise me with him in terms of what his production could be this year. He just keeps getting better. His rapport with Dak is outstanding, and I really think he’s got a chance to step right in there and be a really good, if not great, tight end for us.”

Jarwin, 26, set career highs across the board in 2019 with 31 receptions for 365 yards and three touchdowns. That was while splitting time with Jason Witten. The case can be made that Jarwin busts out. The biggest argument goes back to snap counts. Jarwin saw just under 39 percent of the snaps last year. That number should go through the roof.

I like Jarwin as a potential flier but I’m not sure I’m all the way in. Two reasons. Jarwin is now 26 and wasn’t really on my radar during the draft process. The breakout should have happened by now. Second, there are a lot of mouths to feed in this offense. Zeke, Cooper, Gallup, Lamb already exist. Show me where 80 receptions exist in this offense?
