Shai Gilgeous-Alexander Gives OKC Hope For the Future

After years and years of having little to no playoff success, the Thunder must have wondered where do they go from their loss to Portland? The Oklahoma City Thunder decided to blow it all up and start their rebuild. First, the Thunder traded Paul George for an offer they couldn’t refuse. The Clippers offered Shai Gilgeous-Alexander (SGA), Danilo Gallinari, and FIVE first-round picks for Paul George. I mean who says no to that? After they traded Paul George, there was an impending sense that Russell Westbrook was next. Which he was, in fact, traded next day to the Houston Rockets for 2 more first-round picks and Chris Paul. This practically left the Thunder with little talent to compete for a playoff spot. But their rebuild for years to come should be immaculate as they have too many picks to not get it right.

Shai Gilgeous-Alexander Stats

To bring the post back to its original point, it’s evident that the Thunder have found their PG of the future in SGA. Only in the second year of his NBA career, he has already made a sizable jump in his stats. He is averaging 22 points, 5.9 rebounds, and 3.1 assists per game in 35 minutes. When you’re only in your second year in the NBA, these stats are scary good. This only shows how much potential SGA has to be a great player for the Thunder and in the NBA.

Shai Gilgeous-Alexander is showing that he is going to be the new face of this Oklahoma City Thunder. The Thunder wasted the talent they had by not winning a championship. They had Kevin Durant, he left. They had James Harden, they traded him, which might be the dumbest decision a front office has made. Russell Westbrook is now gone. All three are considered top 10 talents in the NBA. Will the Thunder ever get that lucky ever again? Probably not. But they do have a chance to build a solid young team to hopefully build a dynasty. The man who is going to be leading that charge is SGA. It’ll be exciting to watch what the Thunder do with all these draft picks, the worst thing they can do is completely whiff on these picks. Even if they do, hey, at least they got a complete baller in Shai Gilgeous-Alexander.
