Talk about a huge boost for the Seahawks. How many times can you pick up a player like Jadeveon Clowney just a week before the start of the season? Clowney will head to the Seattle Seahawks in exchange for a third round pick, Jacob Martin, and Barkevious Mingo. On the surface, the trade looks like a total steal for Seattle.
Ian Rapoport of NFL Network was the first to report the news:
This is embarrassing for the Texans. Clowney was the former first overall pick in the 2014 NFL Draft. Now he’s getting dealt for a third round pick. Houston doesn’t even have a GM as of right now after their failed pursuit of Nick Caserio. Bill O’Brien appears to be running personnel decisions. Think about this, Houston just gave up a third round pick for Duke Johnson. They essentially traded Jadeveon Clowney for Duke Johnson. Dear, god, please somebody help Deshaun Watson.
Seattle gets a really good player. Clowney may not be living up to his former number overall pick potential. He’s still really productive. The former South Carolina product has posted 18.5 sacks the past two years. Clowney will now sign his franchise tender and report to Seattle. If the Seahawks can’t re-sign him, there’s no harm. They will just collect a 3rd round comp pick back.
It appears that the Dolphins and Eagles were the other teams in the mix. Clowney didn’t want to play for the Dolphins so that took them out of the mix. I can’t believe other teams didn’t jump at this price. Barkevious Mingo has been a bust in his career. Jacob Martin is a former 6th round pick. An insane steal for the Seattle Seahawks.
