What can you say about the New York Giants? They are a team that is a total mess with zero plan. They have no quarterback and a below average defense. That’s not a recipe for success. The Giants have a total rebuild ahead of them and it starts with the 2019 NFL Draft. Let’s head inside the war room to see what the Giants may have up their sleeve.
First Round (Pick 6) – My original mock has the Giants taking Daniel Jones at 6. Now I think he’s their pick at 17 after the Beckham deal. Reports are out that the Giants have no interest in Dwayne Haskins so forget about him at 6. That leads me to believe that the best defender on the board is going to be the pick. I’m guessing that’s going to be Rashan Gary. The Michigan product is a freaky athlete but doesn’t have the superstar college production. He feels like a Gettleman guy.
First Round (Pick 17) – That leads to Daniel Jones. He’s a David Cutcliffe prodigy. So was Peyton Manning. He’s just that safe, tall quarterback the Giants like. Well, safe in terms of not a superstar but boring and can make the easy throws. If the Giants pick Jones, the Odell Beckham trade turns into a nightmare. Yikes.
Second Round (Pick 37) – How about a corner here? Rock Ya-Sin and Amani Oruwariye may both be available. Janoris Jenkins is solid but the other corners have been getting burned. Eli Apple didn’t work out and isn’t even on the team anymore. Can’t win games if you can’t cover anyone and right now the Giants can’t.
Third Round (Pick 96) – So the Giants actually forfeited their own 3rd round pick. This is the Browns 3rd round pick from the Beckham deal. The Giants need some linebackers. Blake Cashman of Minnesota fits that need. Tre Lamar is another one. Terrill Hanks too. Alec Ogletree is the only linebacker they have. New York needs another one.
The Giants have a ton of work to do. Throw a dart on defense and it’s a need. Another wide out to replace Beckham makes sense too.
