Manchester United Prepared to Sack Ole Gunnar Solskjær

Manchester United is preparing to sack manager Ole Gunnar Solskjær, per a report from football insider Fabrizio Romano. The club is expected to mutually part ways with Solskjær, with an official announcement pending.

According to Romano, the decision was made by the Manchester United board and approved by the Glazer family, with coaches Darren Fletcher and Michael Carrick expected to fill managerial duties in the interim.

The move comes less than 24 hours after the Red Devils’ embarrassing 4-1 defeat at the hands of Watford on Saturday. United currently sit 7th in the Premier League table with a 5-2-5 record and six points out of the top four. The squad has just one win in their last five matches.

Solskjær was awarded a three-year contract extension last summer following Manchester United’s second-place finish in the EPL table. He was first appointed as interim manager of the club in December 2018 following Jose Mourinho’s sacking and was promoted to full-time manager in March 2019. The 48-year-old won 91 of his 168 games as manager of the club.

On a team loaded with talent, including Cristiano Ronaldo, Bruno Fernandes, Paul Pogba and more, the excuses for the club’s troubles have since faded, with Solskjær’s failures having compounded for far too long, ultimately ending in his sacking.

As Manchester United look to turn the page, there’s no shortlist of potential replacements for one of the best jobs in world football. Notably, ex-Real Madrid boss Zinedine Zidane, Leicester’s Brendan Rodgers and PSG’s Mauricio Pochettino are among the rumored candidates to replace Solskjær.
