Mac Jones Should Be Nearly Undraftable In Fantasy In 2022
With fantasy football season around the corner, fans are starting to take a look at big boards and looking and what kind of team they want to put together to help them finally win a fantasy football season. At the Quarterback position, there are some that you should not eat the cheese on, but on that list, I believe there was a glaring omission: Mac Jones in New England. I would not touch Mac Jones with a ten-foot pole in fantasy this season, and I will explain why.
Outlook
For starters, I want to explain something. A lot of the reason why I would not draft Mac Jones in fantasy in 2022 is not on him. The kid has some talent to him. This falls on the front office, and especially Bill Belichick. This team has done a terrible job surrounding Jones with any talent whatsoever and has failed him. One could argue that this should have cost Belichick his job at this point. This receiving core is terrible, and that trade for DaVante Parker will not make things any better. They also have done a terrible job in addressing help in the draft, with a prime example being the first-round pick of Cole Strange who thought it was a prank being drafted that high.
His stats last season were…fine. Last season, Mac Jones threw for 3,802 yards and 22 TDs. Both of those totals were good for placing him in the top half of the league for QBs. But I see a major regression in stats for Jones this season. Teams will figure out this offense easily, mostly because it is from the 1990s and better game plan for this team. This offense is not dynamic, and with last season’s OC Josh McDaniels leaving for Vegas, we aren’t even sure who is calling the plays! This Patriots offense will be a disaster this season, that much is clear.
Mac Jones will be a bottom-third fantasy Quarterback in 2022, and if you take anything away from what I write, take this away. Jones is basically undraftable this season, and until this Patriots front office does anything to surround him with talent, nothing will change.
