I bleed for the team in green. For the most part, this has been a really fun Celtics season. When the Celtics have their full team on the floor, they’re VERY dangerous. When the reserves start playing bigger roles, they’re not that good. Enter Brad Wanamaker into the conversation. I’ll tell you this, I’ve seen enough of Brad Wanamaker. Get this guy out of the rotation NOW.
The Wanamaker minutes are killing the Celtics. The more this guy plays, the more damaging it becomes for Boston. I’m not one to complain about rotations, but I’m having a hard time figuring out how Wanamaker is helping the Celtics win? This is the way the Jazz game ended last night. I can’t take another minute of him.
The fans on Twitter were ruthless last night. The problem is, the mob isn’t wrong here.
Fans aren’t always right. They’re absolutely correct here. The eye test doesn’t lie on this one. Brad Wanamaker stinks. Playing him in a few spots off the bench is one thing. If I have to see Wanamaker in crunch time again, my eyes might bleed.
From a statistical standpoint, the former Pitt product isn’t a total nightmare. It’s not great either. Just shy of 20 minutes a game, 6.7 points, 42.5 percent shooting. The only thing he does well is make his free throws. 92.9 percent in that category. Every other stat doesn’t really help his case.
The on-off stats really exemplify the eye test. Every time Brad Wanamaker is on the floor, the Celtics look worse. On-off stats aren’t everything, but they sure mean something when they’re this drastic. Boston has an offensive rating of +8.7 better when Wanamaker sits compared to when he plays. That’s a big number.
Carsen Edwards isn’t ready for primetime, but something has to change. I don’t care what happens. Javonte Green, Tremont Waters, Tacko running the point, I don’t care. What I can’t see is another extended run of Brad Wanamaker.
