Freddie Freeman Signs Multi-Year Deal With The Dodgers

The long grueling wait is finally over. Freddie Freeman has finally made the decision to sign a lengthy contract with Los Angeles Dodgers. The first baseman spent the previous 12 seasons with the Braves. The 32-year-old took Atlanta to their first championship since 1995 last season.

Freeman will join an already stacked Dodgers team in a lineup with other high-profile names such as Mookie Betts, Justin Turner, Trea Turner, and Cody Bellinger. The team will set out to win their first full season World Series since 1988.

The move will slide multi-talented first baseman Max Muncy to play second base or DH. Manager Dave Roberts expects the designated hitter role to be a revolving door based on matchups, with Freeman set to be inserted in the role. Everyone will get that opportunity, no matter the position.

Last season, the first baseman slashed .300/.393/.503 with 31 home runs. His career totals include 271 home runs, 1,704 hits, and a .295 average. He won the 2020 National League Most Valuable Player Award along with five All-star appearances, three Silver Sluggers, and a Gold Glove.

What is considered a homecoming, Freeman grew up in Southern California. He was born in the Orange County city of Villa Park. Freeman was drafted in the second round of the 2007 draft by the Braves out of El Modena High School in Orange, CA.

Freeman’s offseason house is located in Southern California as well in Corona Del Mar. He resides with his wife Chelsea, and his three children in the quiet beachside community. It’s a 50-minute drive to Dodger Stadium, pending the terrible Los Angeles rush hour.
