Jerry Jeudy or CeeDee Lamb? I hate coping out but I really change my mind every day. In one of my recent mailbags, I described why I would probably lean towards Lamb over Jeudy. I also didn’t feel great about it. Lamb looks like a top 5 pick in the NFL Draft looks like. Physically, Lamb looks like Julio Jones, AJ Green, and DeAndre Hopkins in terms of height and frame. Jeudy is small. Not a ton of receivers who are 6-foot-1 and under 200 pounds going in the top 10. BUT… what if Jerry Jeudy holds the ultimate trump card?
Separation is king. Has there been a better route running wizard to come out of the NFL Draft in recent memory? If there has been, there aren’t many better. Jeudy has perfected his craft in terms of route running. Jeudy has a perfect blend of suddenness, speed, and quickness to separate. I’m not sure anybody can cover him one on one.
I hate just blindly agreeing with draft experts, but there’s no way around it. Jeudy is a route running wizard and he’s about as good as it gets in terms of that specific skill set. It’s not just the fact that he’s a great route running, he doesn’t even look human half the times. It’s like an alien is out there half the time. Humans don’t move like that. When you’re trying to find elite talent, that’s a good indicator.
The talent with Jeudy is off the charts. As a sophomore in 2018, the Alabama receiver was named the Biletnikoff Award winner as the nation’s best wide receiver. Jeudy ran a 4.45 – 40 yard dash and jumped 35. inches on the vert. Check and check. Dominant production in the SEC in 2018 and 2019 with 24 receiving touchdowns.
If separation is king and Jerry Jeudy is the best at it, why isn’t he the best receiver in the draft? Good question. Seems like I may have boxed myself into a corner. Is there even a fair comp for Jeudy? He’s so different from all of the top receiver prospects in recent memory. Jeudy does a lot of his damage in the slot. That’s odd. Jeudy doesn’t have great size. What if he’s just a rich man version of Calvin Ridley? Ehhh? Here’s what I do know. Jerry Jeudy holds the ultimate trump card. You won’t miss if you draft the Alabama wide receiver.
