Christian Kirk Is The Best “Boring” Fantasy Pick Ever
You think of Christian Kirk, and I’m pretty sure the first word that comes to mind is “meh.” Trust me, you’re not alone. I thought the same of Kirk when he was a Cardinal, but this year is different. He’s the wide receiver 1 on a team with a talented young quarterback in a fantasy friendly offense with little competition for targets. Not to mention, he showed signs of improvement last year with a career high 982 receiving yards and averaged a respectable 12 fantasy points per game (PPR).
Let’s start off with the facts. Trevor Lawrence is in an objectively better situation this year compared to last. Christian Kirk just got a BAG to sign for the Jacksonville Jaguars this summer. He is also the leading receiver on the team as per the depth chart. Based on that information, I think it’s a safe assumption to make that Kirk should at least maintain some level of fantasy relevance.
Now personally, I think Trevor Lawrence is an uber-talented quarterback and last year wasn’t a great depiction of that. Yet even in that dumpster fire of a situation, Lawrence showed some flashes of his potential, which gives me confidence in him this year. He’s going to make some plays this year, and who better to catch them than the shiny new leading receiver. And that’s exactly what’s been happening at training camp, too.
It doesn’t get any simpler than this. It’s plain and obvious Kirk will be the most targeted receiver in this offense. On top of this, the Jaguars are obviously not a great football team just yet. They’re probably going to need to throw the ball a lot, especially in the second half of games. That means a ton of opportunities for fantasy points for Kirk.
The craziest part about Christian Kirk is his value, though. You can get him easily in rounds eight through ten because he’s never been considered a great fantasy option. Let other people make the mistake of overlooking him, and make the best “boring” pick possible by drafting Kirk yourself.
