AEW Blood & Guts Results & Review (6/29/22): New Title Match Announced

AEW Blood & Guts definitely lived up to its name. There wasn’t a lot of matches on the card, but it still was packed full of action. There were also some interesting developments on the show. In case you missed it, this is everything that went down.

Ethan Page vs Orange Cassidy

Ethan Page and Orange Cassidy’s match kicked off AEW Blood & Guts. Dan Lambert took to Twitter and challenged Cassidy to a match against Page the night prior. Shortly after his request, the match was made official. Cassidy came out to a new/old theme song. After reports of Tony Khan trying to get the song cleared, it finally happened. Cassidy got his theme song he used on the indies prior to AEW, Jane by Jefferson Starship. As Page and Lambert were coming down to the ring, the latter demanded that the referee bar the Best Friends from ringside since they weren’t Cassidy’s managers. The referee had to toss Trent Beretta and Chuck Taylor from ringside as a result. After suffering a loss against Will Osprey at Forbidden Door, Cassidy needed a win to get back on track. He shocked everyone and defeated Page clean, which is huge for him.

Winner: Orange Cassidy

Christian Cage Appeared

It was announced that Christian Cage was going to appear live and request a match on the show. It was unclear what was going to happen, but we quickly found out. Tony Schiavone interviewed Cage and he cut another incredible promo.

Cage was supposed to apologize but did the complete opposite:

“Jungle Boy, I’m sorry your entire family isn’t dead, and they had to witness me end you in that ring,” Cage said.

VIA AEW on TV/Twitter

Brutal stuff from Cage, but it just shows how good he really is. He has so much heat on him, he is quickly rising to be one of the best heels in wrestling.

Cage would go on to say that he did request a match, but it wasn’t for him. Luchasaurus came out to a new theme and a heel turn. Last week, Cage was cutting a promo on Jungle Boy and Luchasaurus came down to defend him. He went after Cage, but Cage whispered something to him and told him he wants to talk in private. The two would leave the ring and head to the back together. Luchasaurus came out after Cage’s promo to an awesome new song and showed his allegiance to Cage.

Luchasaurus made quick work of his opponent, Serpentico. After the match, Luchasaurus wasn’t done and choke slammed Serpentico on the ringside floor. I really enjoyed this part of the show. Cage is so good as a heel and Luchasaurus got a much needed refresh. Jungle Boy is set for a huge singles push now as well. A win for everyone involved.

Winner: Luchasaurus

Scorpio Sky and Wardlow Interview

Tony Schiavone interviewed the TNT Champion, Scorpio Sky and Wardlow. Ever since Wardlow beat MJF and became a part of the official AEW roster, he has had his eyes set on the TNT Championship. The two wouldn’t say much in this promo. Wardlow wants a shot at the TNT Championship and Sky gave it to him. On next week’s Dynamite, it is going to be Scorpio Sky taking on Wardlow in a street fight for the TNT Championship. The TNT Championship hasn’t been very relevant as of late, so AEW needs to bring back the prestige the title once had. Giving it to Wardlow might just do that.

The Gunn Club & Max Caster vs Danhausen & FTR

Danhausen was set to take on the Gunn Club and Max Caster with a team of his choosing. FTR was that team, which made for an interesting trio. FTR are coming off of a huge win at Forbidden Door retaining their ROH Tag-Team Championships and winning the IWGP Tag-Team Championships. They now hold three tag titles, ROH, IWGP, and AAA. I love the pairing of the Gunn Club and the Acclaimed. It is so entertaining every time they come out.

The match was better than I expected. It was really fun, but also hard-hitting. Danhausen went to hit the GTS on Austin Gunn, but Anthony Bowens jumped into the ring with his crutch. He went to hit Danhausen, but hit Austin by accident. Danhausen would pin Austin and pick up the win. Bowens was getting pushed around in a wheelchair, so it was surprising to see him out of it. After Austin realized what happened, he shoved Bowens. Billy Gunn got involved and pushed Austin to the ground, seemingly took the side of the Acclaimed. Austin and Colten left the ring together, leaving Billy and the Acclaimed alone.

Winner: Danhausen & FTR

We heard from Sonjay Dutt, Jay Lethal, and Satnam Singh

Sonjay, Jay, and Satnam were backstage calling out Samoa Joe once again. Lethal demanded that Samoa Joe defends the ROG World Television Championship against him at Death Before Dishonor. There hasn’t been any word on the match being official, but I assume it will be.

*TBS Championship Match*

Leila Grey vs Jade Cargill (c)

Prior to AEW Blood & Guts, Stokely Hathaway demanded that Tony Khan put out an open challenge to the locker room for Jade Cargill. The request was granted and Leila Grey answer the call. Grey isn’t a full time wrestler for AEW. She has been hitting the indie circuit. She wrestled for AEW Dark, AEW Dark Elevation, AEW Rampage, and even WWE Smackdown all in the past year. Jade won pretty quickly and after the match, called out the women’s locker room.

Stokely said that he was shocked that no one else answered the open challenge. He called out Athena and Kris Statlander and shortly after they came out. The pair were attacking Cargill, and Grey came to her aid after Stokely whispered something to her. Jade didn’t like that and walked out of the ring. The next challenger for the TBS Championship match has to be either Statlander or Athena as they’re the only ones going after Jade Cargill.

Winner: Jade Cargill (c)

The Young Bucks Backstage

The Young Bucks were backstage talking about how they had no more friends in AEW. They talked about the Forbidden Door still being open and challenged Hirooki Goto and Yoshi Hashi to a match on AEW Rampage. The match has been made official and is set to take place on Rampage.

Blood & Guts Match

Jericho Appreciation Society vs Blackpool Combat Club, Eddie Kingston, & Santana and Ortiz

AEW Blood & Guts, the match everyone was waiting for, finally took place. These two groups of men have been going at it for months and simply don’t like each other. They were set to meet in a Blood & Guts match that had a lot of hype and it definitely lived up to its name. The Jericho Appreciation Society gained the man advantage after Jericho, Guevara, and Suzuki won at Forbidden Door. Sammy Guevara and Claudio Castagnoli, F.K.A Cesaro, started the match. It quickly became hard-hitting and went to the next level fast. The last two men to enter were Jericho and Eddie Kingston.

The match was bloody and pure chaos. This one was not for the faint of heart, but what do you expect for a match called Blood & Guts to be? There were thumbtacks, shards of broken glass, steel chairs, tables, and everything you could imagine.

Jericho and Kingston would make their way to the top of the cage and fight it out up there. Sammy would join them helping Jericho. Kingston would get the advantage and throw Sammy off of the cage.

Claudio climbed to the top of the cage to join Kingston and Jericho. He delivered his signature swings on top of the cage. Matt Menard joined the party on the top of the cage to try to help Jericho. Claudio and Kingston both locked in submissions on Jericho and Menard, but it was Menard who tapped out. Kingston was disappointed because he wanted to be the one to make Jericho tap and win the match.

Winner: Blackpool Combat Club, Eddie Kingston, & Santana and Ortiz
